Joel L. Young, MD
Dr. Young is the medical director and founder of the Rochester Center for Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Young attended the College of Literature Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He graduated with high distinction with a major in History. In 1989 Dr. Young graduated from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He pursued his residency (1989-1993) at the University of Michigan Hospitals where he became the Adult Service Chief Resident.

Dr. Young came to Rochester in 1993 serving as the first director of Psychiatric Emergency Services at Crittenton Hospital. While building RCBM through these years he also served as Crittenton’s chief of Psychiatry.
Dr. Young is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Additionally Dr. Young is certified by the American Board of Adolescent Psychiatry. He also holds added qualifications in Geriatric and Forensic Psychiatry. He is the founder of the Michael Golds Memorial Lecture, and the recipient of the Foundation’s 2002 "Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of ADHD." He serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the Attention Deficit Disorder Association.
His primary clinical interests involve the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and ADHD throughout the life cycle. He has published textbook chapters and articles on many of these topics and contributed essays on mental health public policy and other psychiatric issues. Dr Young, along with RCBM associate medical director Birgit Amann, MD, has served as primary investigator on many clinical research projects. He has given hundreds of lectures locally and throughout the country regarding his areas of specialty.
Dr. Young's book, AD/HD Grown Up, will be published in late 2006, early 2007.
