Join RCBM at the Mind Over Matter (MOM) Race May 4

At Rochester Center for Behavioral Medicine, our dedicated team works to assist individuals and families whose lives are touched by mental illness or suicide each and every day. Now, our team is going the extra mile (3.1 miles to be exact) and participating in the Mind Over Matter or ‘MOM’ Race May 4 in Royal Oak. We invite you to join us.
The annual 5K run/walk raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention and raises much-needed funds. To date, the race has raised $350,000 for local brain research, suicide prevention programming, and crisis intervention services.
“Events like this are so important to raise awareness and to let members of our community know they’re not alone,” says Amy Suess, an administrative assistant at RCBM. Her daughter, Tabitha, has battled mental illness for more than a decade, since she was just 13 years old. The teen was hospitalized numerous times and has required ongoing treatment.
Seuss recalls one frightening incident several years ago when Tabitha disappeared. She was later found by police at a bus station, attempting to run away with a dangerous felon. Thankfully, officers stopped her in time. Seuss credits RCBM, Dr. Young and members our team with saving her daughter’s life.
“I can’t even explain the worry and concern. I can’t even look at pictures from that timeframe because it’s so difficult,” Suess says. “Today, Tabitha is more stable than ever. She still struggles, but we have a good relationship.”
Suess helped to organize the RCBM team for the MOM Race. We currently have 21 members signed up and ready to go and we’d love to add more. Started in 2006, this event aims to erase the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide. There’s still time to register. Please see details below.
