The Benefits of Clinical Research Participation

Did you know that the Rochester Center for Behavioral Medicine is an active clinical research site?  Which begs the question…just what IS clinical research?  Many potential participants may write it off due to a lack of understanding, which is unfortunate because clinical research is a valuable treatment offering and provides close attention and cutting edge care to those in need.  Our medical director and primary investigator, Joel L. Young, M.D., is in charge of all medical care. Our staff of 4 clinical coordinators work closely with all study participants from the beginning to the end of the trial.

The benefits of clinical research participation are numerous.  Participants receive medication treatment and close monitoring by our experienced staff.  Participation is free and often includes EKG’s, lab work and vital signs.  Furthermore, clinical trials allow patients access to innovative treatment alternatives before they are widely available, while contributing to medical research.

Most of the time, the medications being used are already FDA-approved but are being studied in a new population or for a different indication.  For example, we may conduct a trial studying a medication that is already approved for the treatment of depression but is now being looked at for anxiety.

So how do you enroll in a clinical trial at RCBM?  If you are a current patient and are interested in learning more, feel free to let your clinician know that you would like to speak with one of our clinical research coordinators about your options. If you are not an existing RCBM patient, feel free to contact our office at (248) 608-8800, ext 270 and ask to speak with one of our clinical coordinators.  Please visit our webpage often to learn about currently enrolling trials!
