Learning Disorders

Learning Disorders are categorized as neurological processing issues that can affect basic skills such as reading, writing, and math. When early intervention is not established with the fundamental learning skills, it can continue to higher-level skills such as planning, reasoning, organization, and short and long-term memory. Typically, individuals with learning disabilities have average or above-average intelligence but struggle with one or more basic learning skills (reading, writing, math). Two common types of learning disorders are dysgraphia and dyslexia. Dysgraphia is a specific type of learning disorder that affects an individual’s ability to perform fine motor skills and handwriting such as spacing, spelling, and the combination of thinking and writing simultaneously. Dyslexia is a particular learning disability that affects reading, decoding words, and numbers, comprehension, and writing skills. It is sometimes referred to as a Language-Based learning disorder.

The issue is the gap between their potential and the achievement that they can reach due to learning disorder hindering them. An average person with a learning disorder looks, acts, and behaves normally but struggles to perform a skill that is expected of a person of that age. When it comes to learning disorders, it is not something that can be fixed or cured. When addressed early on with academic and family support, intervention and a proposed plan moving forward, individuals with learning disorders can achieve success in all modalities of life.

RCBM is dedicated to helping diagnose and support those who have a learning disorder through psychological screening, accurate analysis of results and an individualized plan moving forward.
