Allison McKee, LMSW
Allison McKee obtained a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Wayne State University. She completed her undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Development. Allison is a licensed social worker in Michigan.
Allison is a full-time school social worker at an elementary school in Troy, Michigan. Before this, she was a full-time clinical therapist in the child/adolescent unit at Havenwyck Hospital. Throughout her professional career, she has worked with children with ADHD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and psychosis, as well as children on the autism spectrum. Allison has experience conducting individual and group therapy sessions emphasizing generating solutions, identifying coping skills, processing emotions, developing social communication skills, and learning how to manage impulsive behaviors.
Allison’s clinical interests include children and young adolescents (ages 5 to 13) and relational family work. Allison believes it is crucial to work with a child’s system (i.e., family, school, community, culture) as she finds that working with these systems can significantly influence positive change. Allison’s approach to providing individual psychotherapy is influenced by evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy and a systemic family-focused approach. Allison uses fun and engaging activities to introduce therapeutic concepts to children with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. When working with children, Allison looks at the whole child and considers not just the emotional components but also the cognitive, physical, social, and family aspects of a child.
